Radio minute: Canadians deserve homes they can afford to buy

April 2, 2026

After driving Canada into a housing crisis, then making it worse, Mark Carney has finally recognized that Pierre Poilievre’s approach is the sensible way to help Canadians afford a home. After years of failure, the Liberals have announced a version of our Conservative proposal to cut housing development charges and remove the HST on new homes up to $1 million.

Canada’s housing costs are the worst in the G7 and construction is expected to continue to drop.

This government has failed, now scrambling to catch up after years of getting it wrong. And what’s more, Carney’s announcement only applies to Ontario, just days head of critical by-elections.

Pierre has been clear: the solution is to remove barriers, cut taxes, and get government out of the way to build homes in every province and territory.

We will remove the GST on new homes under $1.3 million, incentivize municipalities to cut red tape and speed up permits, and hold them accountable if they fail to build.

Canadians deserve homes they can afford to buy.
