Radio minute: Dental care for eligible seniors?
February 25, 2026
Pensioners seeking coverage for dental care through the Canadian Dental Care Plan were sold a false bill of goods.
Many teachers in Saskatchewan made a financial decision years ago to opt out of their retirement dental plan. Those on low incomes knew they couldn’t afford the premiums, while others simply didn’t even know the plan existed.
The Liberals brought in their dental care plan, claiming it would be affordable and accessible for eligible Canadians—particularly those with no private insurance.
After being told they were eligible for the federal plan, retirees sought out the care they needed and qualified for. Now, out of the blue, these seniors are being told to pay back their benefits.
Why?
Because in the government’s eyes, they still have “access” to their retiree dental plan.
The Liberal dental plan has been flawed from the very beginning. They falsely told Canadians that it would be free to those in need. Now, seniors and their dental care professionals are left hanging because the Liberal government has changed the rules based on a different interpretation of the word “access.”
It’s another example of this government punishing vulnerable Canadians for their own administrative failures.
