Radio minute: Entrepreneurial drought

April 22, 2026

Small business represents 70% of Canada’s economy. Entrepreneurs face unseen sacrifice and risk with no guarantees. All levels of government must support rather than impede their success.

The Liberal government has spent the cupboards bare, borrowed millions more, and devalued our dollar. After shuttering the engines of Canada’s economy, over 1 trillion dollars of investment has left for greener pastures.

Confidence in Canada has suffered, leading to what the CFIB calls an “entrepreneurial drought.” Higher taxes, more red tape, and too much risk are leading to Canada losing more businesses than are created. Canadians are actually starting twice as many outside our country than inside, with 55 percent of owners not recommending starting a business in Canada today.

Instead of policies that revitalize and sustain small business, the federal government has regulated ambition out of our economy.

Conservatives look forward to providing a business environment where you can compete, ensuring that the grit and expertise of small business owners is rewarded – not punished.
