Radio minute: This isn’t public safety

March 11, 2026

A registered firearm owner in our region did everything right — he followed the law, respected the rules — and yet is being failed by the chaotic firearm confiscation scheme imposed by the Carney government.

This constituent legally purchased a firearm under a restricted licence years ago. Then, overnight, the government changed the rules and banned it. Now he’s trying to comply to be compensated before the Liberal March 31st deadline.

Here’s the absurd part: there is nowhere for him to take the firearm. Federal officials can’t answer his basic questions. The Liberal Minister’s office can’t even explain how compliance works.

As always, taxpayers will be stuck with the bill for the Liberal program. Cost overruns are projected to reach $24,000 per firearm – all to confiscate property from farmers, hunters, and Indigenous families who rely on hunting – while doing nothing to stop actual criminals.

This isn’t public safety. It’s bureaucratic chaos, political theatre, and a direct attack on rural Canadians who have done nothing wrong.

Canadians deserve better.
