Wagantall issues statement concerning evolving situation in Mexico

OTTAWA, ON — Cathay Wagantall, Member of Parliament for Yorkton-Melville, has issued the following statement concerning the developing security situation in Mexico:

“The Government of Canada is closely monitoring the rapidly evolving security situation, including in and around Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta.

“Local authorities have issued shelter-in-place orders in some locations. Canadians in Mexico are encouraged to follow this local advice.

“Consular officials are in close contact with local authorities and stand ready to assist Canadians in the affected areas.

“Canadians in need of emergency consular assistance should contact the Embassy of Canada to Mexico, in Mexico City at +52 55-5724-7900 or by email at mxicocs@international.gc.ca during business hours. Canadians in Mexico are also encouraged to ensure they have registered their travel with Global Affairs Canada at https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/registration.
